St. Macartan’s College Launches Major Fundraising Scheme

 
Bishop Duffy joined members of the St.Macartan’s College Board of Management, members of staff, past pupils, parents and friends of the College to see St. Macartan’s launch a fundraising drive to further enhance the IT, artistic and sports facilities at the College.
 
At the launch of this new initiative, College principal Mr. Raymond Mc Hugh outlined recent improvements at St Macartan’s College which saw the provision of a new Sports Hall, the refurbishment of three Science laboratories, the development of part of the former boarding school into class rooms, the upgrading of the school’s Learning Support and Language Support facilities, the installation of new IT equipment in the Technical Graphics Department, the refurbishment of Woodwork rooms and the opening of a new Music Department.
 
He continued by outlining the plans for the next phase of development which will see the development of all-weather training facilities, the refurbishment of the handball and squash courts, the conversion of the old gym into a venue for the promotion of the Arts in the College and the further enhancement of IT facilities in the school for teachers and students. The principal expressed a hope that that parents, past pupils and friends of St Macartan’s will help in the school’s fundraising endeavours by becoming Patrons of St Macartan’s College by joining the Cairde Mhic Chairthinn / Semfriends Patronage scheme.
 
Chairman of the St. Macartans College Board of Management, Fr. Shane Mc Caughey in his address spoke of the role St. Macartan’s has played in community of North Monaghan and beyond since its foundation in 1840. He outlined the fact that the College has never made excuses for endeavouring to provide the best for the students who came and continue to come to learn in the College. 
 
Project co-ordinator and former Deputy Principal Mr. Vincent Lee outlined the role he hoped that past pupils, parents and associates of the College would play in this initiative. He also expressed his delight with the early response to the project from current parents whose support has enthused the project and its promoters in its early stages.
