World Book Day

Fun and creativity were apparent in the First Year Debates as was excellent well thought out contributions from the speakers representing Rang Marcus and Rang Meldan. The Rang Marcus team of Zach Perkins, David Brennan, Morgan Murphy and Kyle Brannigan were proposing the motion, "Books are a Waste of Time". The opposing team were Rory O' Hare, Fearghal Keenan, Conor Cassidy and John Campbell. After a well contested debate the winning team was Rang Meldan. Best Speaker was John Campbell.

St. Macartan’s win Regional Debating Title. 
 
The St. Macartan’s College senior debating team of Ryan Treanor, Michael McKenna and Calvin McArdle won the  North East Regional Mental Health Public Speaking finals held in Cavan last week. This year is the 32nd year of the competition with participants debating the topic, “Life is a journey not the destination”. The St. Macartan’s team is mentored by Mr. Roy Mallon and Ms. Siobhan Colreavy and will go forward to the All-Ireland semi- finals in March

Debating 08/09

Kevin Hickey and Conall O' Rourke represented the school at this year's Secondary Schools Debate run by the Philosophical & History Society in Trinity College, Dublin. The debate took place in Trinity College on 20th. October and Kevin Hickey now progresses to the next round.

The Mental Health Public Speaking Project took place on 4th. December. This year's team included Kevin Hickey, James Moran and Gregory Mc Nally.

Congratulations to Kevin Hickey, Conall O' Rourke and Gregory Mc Nally who won the County Monaghan final of the National Forum on Europe Public Speaking Competition. The team were prepared by Mc. S. Colreavy and Mr. R. Mallon.
