President Michael D. Higgins visited St. Macartan's College to speak at his initiative “Take Charge Of Change” – a consultation with young people across the country to explore their vision for Ireland. The event, which was the second of four regional consultations, was attended by a representative group of 17 – 25 year olds.  Over the next two weekends consultations will take place in  Cork and Galway.
The President was formally welcomed to the College by Mr. R. Mc Hugh, Principal, Ms. M. Mc Donald, Deputy Principal and Rev. S. Mc Caughey, Chairman of the Board of Management.

In his address, President Higgins told the participants You have the opportunity today to articulate that kind of society you seek to live in with others, grow older in, and in the future hand on to other generations... You also have the opportunity to share and reflect on, to suggest and decide the kind of arrangements, choices, and compromises you seek, that you are willing to live with, and make to achieve that vision.”

The President's address was warmly received by the large group in attendance.
