St. Macartan’s College Welcomes Sports Capital Programme Grant.

The already extensive sports facilities at St. Macartan’s College will be further enhanced thanks to the Cairde Mhic Chairthinn scheme and a €100,000 grant awarded through the Sports Capital Programme which was announced in June. The Sports Capital Programme aims to foster an integrated and planned approach to developing sports and physical recreation facilities throughout the country.  For schools to qualify for the scheme applications had to be made in co-operation with other local sporting bodies. St. Macartan’s has already long established links with a number of groups who use their facilities on an ongoing basis. The sports facilities at St. Macartan’s cater for the comprehensive sports programme available to students at the school. This programme sees the school compete at the highest levels in a wide range of sports and saw the school win the title of Fittest Boys School in Ireland in 2013 and again 2014. The school’s facilities are also made available to a number of local sporting organisations. The €100,000 Sports Capital Grant will go towards the development of two all weather playing fields at the school.
