The annual transfer rate from secondary schools to Third Level were published in the national media on Sunday last. As reported in last Sunday’sSunday Times, St. Macartan’s College most recent past pupils will transfer once again in very significant numbers to their chosen courses at third level. The 2014 data sees St. Macartan’s amongst the best boys schools in Ireland. A group of the schools top performing students spent the morning with their teachers on Tuesday last. Seventeen students from last year’s group achieved 500 or more Leaving Certificate points seeing the class of 2014 finish their time at St. Macartan’s as one of the best performing class groups in the school for some time. Pictures above with their Year Head Ms. Linda Walsh Fitzgerald, deputy principal Ms. Marion McDonald and Principal Mr. Raymond McHugh are some of the students who secured 500 or more points. Included in the photograph are David Carey who will study Accounting and Finance at DCU, Peter Read to study Physics at UCD, Daniel Murphy going to study Mathematics at Queens University Belfast, Michael McKenna who will study Medicine at Trinity College Dublin, Caolan McGee and Christopher Mc Anenly who will both study Business Studies at DCU, Killian Lavelle going to UCD to study Radiography, James Sherry taking Business and Economics at Trinity College Dublin, Dara Bell who will study Science at UCD, Donal McCarthy who will study Engineering at UCD, Daire Quinn who will study Commerce at UCD, Noel Flood who will study Gaeilge at University of Ulster, Derry, Ruairí Crawley who will study the visual arts and design at IADT Dun Laoghaire, Kevin Treanor who will take Veterinary Studies at Royal Veterinary College London. Absent from photograph were, Joseph Caulfield who will take Physics at UCD, Kevin Hughes taking Psychology at Queens University and James McKenna will study Business Studies at DCU. St. Macartan’s was also informed that their 2014 MacRory cup captain Conor McCarthy was awarded a UCD Ad Astra GAA scholarship for elite athletes.
