Four teams represented Saint Macartan’s College in Ulster colleges hurling throughout 2014. Whilst the Maguire Cup (U-16½) and Mallon Cup (U-14½) teams had mixed success in winning and losing two games each meaning they failed to qualify from their groups to the final stages of their competitions in February and May respectively, the Rehill Cup squad (U-13½) had somewhat more success in that they defeated St. Mark’s, Warrenpoint and St. Paul’s, Bessbrook on their way to the semi-final where they were beaten by one point by Coláiste Feirste, Belfast on October 15th. The Sem’s Noone Cup Squad (U-15½) also defeated Holy Cross, Strabane and St. Aidan’s, Cootehill in their group to reach the final stages of their competition which were played in early December. Unfortunately the Sem’s run in the Noone Cup came to an end at the semi-final stages. Additionally two U-17 teams competed in a seven-a-side county hurling competition played in Cloghan. In order to ensure Hurling year-round Wall Ball competitions in the school’s 60×30 Handball alleys and Indoor Hurling in the sports hall facilities were a weekly event offering everyone involved a different hurling experience and the opportunity to further hone their skills.
